Posted by Ken Eastman on Oct 13, 2012 A large crowd and more than 70 exhibitors turned out on Saturday, August 25, 2012 for our Second Annual ALIVE Healthcare Festival, possibly the largest health and fitness "happening" ever held in Ventura County, according to event chair Jay Berger. Thanks to the 20+ Camarillo Rotary members and spouses for volunteering at this event, which raised more than $9,000 (almost double its goal) to benefit Rotary International's End Polio Now campaign and local health care causes through our club foundation. | Posted by Ken Eastman on Jun 05, 2012 At its regular meeting of May 30th, Camarillo Rotary awarded eight scholarships to deserving local high school seniors. The winners were (front row, left to right): Patricia Baguinon (Camarillo High School; Honn Memorial Scholarship), Kaytlin Kuns (Rio Mesa High School; Phillip B. Gore Scholarship), Bronté Hopkins (Camarillo; Honn Memorial Scholarship), Christine Flores (Rio Mesa; Bill Maxwell Scholarship). Back row, left to right: Elizabeth Coler (Camarillo; Scott Family Vocational Scholarship), Brianna Fry (Rio Mesa; Elaine Pettersen Scholarship), Emily Fraser (Rio Mesa; Christopher Vanos Memorial Scholarship), and Cynthia Romero (Camarillo; Tish Taylor Scholarship).
Prior to helping with the awards presentation, Pleasant Valley School District Dr. Luis Villegas spoke about the importance of free public education, choosing the right college, and enjoying the college experience.
Thanks to Pat McCollum and her scholarship committee (Debbie Herrera, Megan Voshell, Mary Vanderlaan, Anson Mar, Marti DeLaO and Brenda Sloan) for all of their hard work on this year's awards program and presentation. | Posted by Ken Eastman on May 21, 2012 Hundreds of kids and their parents, representing more than a dozen local elementary and middle schools, enjoyed our Hap Rapp Memorial Track Meet on Saturday, May 19th at Camarillo High School. The annual event began in 1959, and is the Camarillo Rotary Club's oldest community service project. Seven of the ten trophy winners (most points in his or her class) are shown in the photo. The Guy Craig award (a cash donation to the winning school) for best preparedness, participation and sportsmanship was won by Santa Rosa Technology Magnet School. Congratulations to Dave Drumright for chairing the event again this year, and thanks to all club members who showed up to help! | Posted by Ken Eastman Our 20th Annual Care for Kids Golf Classic on Monday, July 16, 2012 at Spanish Hills Golf & Country Club was a big success, as a full field of golfers teed off in perfect weather and later enjoyed a tournament dinner featuring this year's special honoree Dr. Steve Elson, CEO of Casa Pacifica Centers for Children & Families. Over the past 19 years, the Rotary Clubs of Camarillo have raised more than $1.4 million for Casa Pacifica and local charities through this great tournament. | Posted by Ken Eastman The YouTube website now has dozens of Rotary-related videos available for viewing, including an audio speech by Paul Harris, the founder of Rotary.
