Message from District Governor Eileen Rau
Last month I talked about Rotary's call to action and then Hurricane Sandy hit the Northeast. In this area, we had to contend with power outages, but to the south there was utter destruction. My classmate Bonnie Sirower was in the center of it in New Jersey and kept the Rotary Governors abreast of what was going on and what was needed for relief efforts. All it took was a simple e-mail describing the situation and the clubs in our district went into action. The Bloomfield Club sent a donation from their club collection efforts plus a match from their own club foundation to the NJ Rotary districts. The Easthampton Club used profit from its Pumpkinfest for relief efforts. The Chicopee Club filled two tractor trailers with goods for Staten Island with help from the Enfield and Somers Clubs. Torrington and Winsted delivered goods to NJ in two trips. One of the members of the Franklin County Club and her family organized an effort to fill up two FedEx trucks in Greefield and Turners and Shelburne Falls, MA. The Southington, Pittsfield, South Windsor, and Great Barrington Clubs are sending funds to help out. The Clubs in Avon-Canton, Farminton, East Hartford and Simsbury-Granby Clubs are working on a collection for donations in December. Our district is sending $10,000 from our reserve fund to the affected Rotary districts in NJ and NY. Wherever and whenever people are in need, Rotarians find a way to help showing the Power of Rotary in action.

Participants must be active club members, other than the President-Elect 2013-2014 and the current club President, who care about helping people in their communities and beyond.
