Welcome to the District 5910 Website !

District Governor:   Brenda K. Walker

District Governor's  Club Home Page.

Fellow Rotarians,
February is World Understanding Month.
Youth Exchange, Group Study Exchange and our Ambassadorial Scholar program provide us opportunities to interact with people of different cultures. We should seek first to understand and then to be understood. Our lives can be enriched by others and it’s fun to learn about cultural customs. If you haven’t seen the movie “Outsourced”, it is a funny and perfect example of how we learn to see the world through the eyes of another culture. Greater cultural understanding will pave the path to a more peaceful humanity.

 Peace Through Service,
Brenda

Important News to all Club Presidents/Club Secretaries and Attendance Managers! ClubRunner enabled automatic database integration with Rotary International on November 1, 2010. This means that all member data updates (which your club chooses to share) will be automatically updated on Member Access at RI's Headquarter databases within 2 hours, without the need to send any email notifications or enter the data via rotary.org. This is a powerful new tool for Rotarians to streamline reporting to Rotary International. Each club must "Opt-In" in order to take advantage of this service.
Instructions for Opting In are available on this site on the admin page, once you sign in.

Rotarians, We have done it! It was announced at the International Assembly that the Polio Challenge has surpassed the US$200 million mark and has raised US$202.6 million as of 17 January 2011. The Chief Executive Officer of The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation was at the Assembly and announced that the Gates Foundation has awarded The Rotary Foundation an additional US$50 million grant for polio eradication. The new $50 million grant from the Gates Foundation is not a challenge grant; it results from Rotary’s early achievement of the $200 million milestone and of the need for continued funding support for the Global Polio Eradication Initiative.

In the 1920's, the Hull-Daisetta area was a booming oil field. Once the Rotary Club was established there, they realized there was not only a shortage of residents, but they did not have a place to meet.  As enterprising Rotarians, they built a small structure in which to hold their meetings. It was a six-sided building, with a peaked roof, a brick fireplace, and a lean-to on the outside that acted as the kitchen. The location served them well for a number of years, but as the oil business dried up, so did the Rotary Club there.
